Flow Augmentations Modify an Estuarine Prey Field

چکیده
Zooplankton density and community composition in estuaries can be affected by variation freshwater inputs, with important implications for higher trophic levels. In the San Francisco Estuary, management agencies have initiated autumn flow augmentations form of changes to reservoir releases or exported water from South Delta increase improve available habitat endangered Smelt, Hypomesus transpacificus, during season when their body condition most influences fecundity. Autumn augmentation only occurs years precipitation, effectively moving Low-Salinity Zone (LSZ) downstream key foraging habitats Smelt Suisun Bay Marsh. To assess whether augmented enhanced prey resources we compared zooplankton abundance, biomass, spatial distribution, was (2017, 2019) reference not (2018, 2020). years, detected total abundance altered Increased these regions associated Pseudodiaptomus forbesi, a preferred while species salinities—Acartiella sinensis Tortanus dextrilobatus—were less abundant. Thus, influence availability underscoring complex responses estuarine communities response salinity regimes. This study is management- relevant because it shows that items X2 lower. Whether results remains seen.

Predators modify the evolutionary response of prey to temperature change.
As climate regimes shift in many ecosystems worldwide, evolution may be a critical process allowing persistence in rapidly changing environments. Organisms regularly interact with other species, yet whether climate-mediated evolution can occur in the context of species interactions is not well understood. We tested whether a species interaction could modify evolutionary responses to temperature...
متن کاملDolphin Prey Availability and Calorific Value in an Estuarine and Coastal Environment
Prey density has long been associated with prey profitability for a predator, but prey quality has seldom been quantified. We assessed the potential prey availability and calorific value for Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus) in an estuarine and coastal environment of temperate south-western Australia. Fish were sampled using three methods (21.5m beach seine, multi-mesh gillnet...
متن کاملVegetation-Sediment-Flow Interactions in Estuarine Wetlands
Coastal saltmarsh distribution in Australia appears to be following a global trend of decline. In the estuaries of NSW, saltmarsh is often squeezed between landward encroachment of mangrove forest and urban/industrial development of foreshore land. Efforts to maintain and rehabilitate saltmarsh are complicated by an incomplete understanding of the hydraulic drivers for estuarine vegetation dist...

Real-time 3D reconstruction and rendering of humans captured by a set of cameras is important in a number of applications, such as virtual try-on and interactive mixed reality systems. These applications create a virtual mirror by displaying a live representation of the user embedded in an artificial environment. Image-based methods are frequently used to perform reconstruction and rendering bu...
متن کاملVelocity field for Taylor–Couette flow with an axial flow
The flow in the gap between an inner rotating cylinder concentric with an outer stationary cylinder with an imposed pressure-driven axial flow was studied experimentally using particle image velocimetry ~PIV! in a meridional plane of the annulus. The radius ratio was h50.83 and the aspect ratio was G547. Velocity vector fields for nonwavy toroidal and helical vortices show the axial flow windin...
